Summer Reading....
I am reading this book along with The Book Club at Desiring Virtue. It is a wonderful introduction to the study of biblical theology. This book will help you get a grip on the unity of the Bible and its central message - Jesus Christ.
I would like to share with you some quotes from the book which have grabbed my attention ~
"Have you ever heard a person say (particularly in the middle of a discussion about the Bible), I'm no theologian, but...? My answer to that is, 'Yes, you are!! All Christians are theologians, but some are more able theologians than others" - pg. 29
"The Christian position, to be consistent, accepts that the Bible is God's Word, and that it says what God wants it to say in exactly the way he wants to say it." - pg.44
"The gospel centers on the birth, life, death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus as God's way of saving us from death and of making us members of his eternal kingdom." - pg.47
"The gospel is God's forethought, his blueprint to creation, not a mere afterthought because of sin." - pg. 49
"What went before Christ in the Old Testament, as well as what comes after him, finds its meaning in him. So the Old Testament must be understood in its relationship to the gospel event." - pg.50
"Jesus drives us back to the Old Testament to examine it through Christian eyes, teaching that it leads us back to him." - pg. 55
"...the Old Testament as progressive, redemptive revelation." Pg. 57
I'd also like to share a video by Wendy Blight of Proverbs 31. Last year she did a study on the book of Hebrews, which continually refers to the Old Testament as it relates to Jesus.
Come on over to facebook for the book club and join us for the study of According to Plan. Hope to see you there!!
I think I shared most of your quotes but found some I think I missed! Great idea to share your favorite quotes, I just might do that! ;)
ReplyDeleteVisiting from The Book Club!!
I find there is much to glean from this book. I think I'll have to read it again to get all of the "meat" out of it.
DeleteVery nice. The old and new are one continuous revelation of His grace and truth. The more you know the God of the old Testament in scripture, the more you see Jesus. He is everywhere and when you read the new all the paths lead back to the old. I do not understand Christians who have not studied all of scripture. God commands it. How can you say you believe something you have not even read? ANyway- glad you are digging deep!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. It is important to read the Old Testament to understand the New Testament and vice versa. I love digging into the Word. I can't get enough of it. Unfortunately, there are so many good Bible studies but so little time. I'd love to do them all!!
