Proverbs 16:3
Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. NIV
Commit your actions to the LORD, and your plans will succeed. NLT
Show your works to Lord Jehovah and he will establish your thoughts. Aramaic Bible
Entrust your efforts to the LORD, and your plans will succeed. GWT
Proverbs 21:5
The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty. NIV
Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty. NLT
The thoughts of the elect one are trusting and those of the evil one cause want. Aramaic Bible
The plans of a hard-working person lead to prosperity, but everyone who is [always] in a hurry ends up in poverty. GWT
Observation:
Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary
The renewing grace of God alone prepares the heart for every good work. This teaches us that we are not sufficient of ourselves to think or speak any thing wise and good. 2. Ignorance, pride, and self-flattery render us partial judges respecting our own conduct. 3. Roll the burden of thy care upon God, and leave it with him, by faith and dependence on him.
The Lutheran Study Bible
Human work is committed to the Lord when it is undertaken in faith and when it is accompanied by the prayer that God's will should be done on earth as it is in heaven.
ESV Study Bible
Lit., “roll upon” in the sense of both total trust (3:5-6) and submission to the will of God (Ps. 22:8; 37:5; 119:133); he will fulfill your righteous plans.
Application:
Life Application Study Bible
There are different ways to fail to commit whatever we do to the Lord:
- Superficial commitment - it is not for the Lord but self
- Temporary commitment - commit at one time, then go back when it is not going the way you think it should
- Full commitment but no effort ourselves
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, today I lay down my own plans and commitments. I want your will to be done in my life. Your word will guide me as I trust in you. For the steps of a righteous woman are ordered of the Lord. In Jesus name, amen.
