Happy Anniversary to Us!!

Today is my 16th wedding anniversary! Dan and I have been together for a total of 19 years. I'd like to share with you my experiences on this journey called married life.

It all began on that warm spring morning. The sun was shining and the birds were singing. I put on my wedding dress, had my hair and makeup done by two wonderful friends, and then I was off in the limo to our church.

I walked down the aisle to the altar where my handsome groom was waiting for me. With veiled face, I exchanged my vows. I recited a passage from Ruth - "Entreat me not to leave thee, nor to return from following after thee. For whither thous goest, I will go. Where thou lodgest I will lodge. Thy people, shall be my people and thy God my God. Where thou diest, will I dies and there will I be buried. The LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me."

As we left the sanctuary that day to begin our life, my friend Jann played a song called "Build Your House on the Rock". These were the lyrics. "Build your house on the rock. Build your house on the Rock. Build your house on the rock and it shall. Ain't no power on this earth that can stand against God's Word. Build your house on the rock and it shall stand."

We had "stars in our eyes" so to speak of how married life was going to be but then reality set in. The first year is the hardest. My husband and I did a lot of growing and adjusting. At times we would say to each other, "Remind me again why we did this." Like Joyce Meyer says, "The Bible says that a man shall leave his father and mother and the two shall become one flesh. It is the becoming part that's the problem."

The song from our wedding has come back to me over the years to remind me where I could find help to be the wife I needed to be. The Word has been my source to do and be all the God wants me to be. The Word sustains me for all Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make me realize what is wrong in my life. It corrects me when I am wrong and teaches me to do what is right 2 Timothy 3:16 NLT

Today, I choose to trust God to be the wife I need to be. I can't do it on my own. But with Him, I can do it. So, I think I'll let him work through me. Let me encourage you, that if you are going through trials and tribulations, you will get through it. Rely on Jesus. Trust Him. He will see you through.
