For God So Loved the World
This is an older post that I thought I'd share again....
Some of you may be familiar with the following verse - For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). You may have seen it on a billboard or at a football game. Maybe you have read it in your Bible. Whichever way you have come across this verse, it is a wonderful truth to be taken to heart.
The Gospel of John talks about the world (Greek - Kosmos) 73 times. The basic themes are that Jesus made the world, He came to save the world, and His Kingdom is not of this world. Jesus made stars and calls them by name (Psalm 147:4) and the earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it (Psalm 24:1). He saved the world by offering Himself as a sacrifice on the cross at Calvary (Hebrews 7:27). This allows people the opportunity to be part of His kingdom - His way of doing and being - (Hebrews 7:27).
Imagine - God loves us so much that He wants to be in a relationship with us!! King David even said, "What is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? But God sent His own Son to rescue us from our sinful condition. Humanity can be despicable at times, me included. But even in this despicable condition, God loves us. That's why he sent a Savior to save us from our sin. That is our greatest need.
As we celebrate this Advent season, may we remember the reason for the season. It is a reminder of the Savior given for us so that we can be made right with God. We are not saved by good works which we have done. It is a total gift of God. Otherwise, we would have room to boast (Ephesians 2:9) I'd like to share a two minute video with Randy Alcorn and Greg Laurie entitled "How can I know if I'm going to heaven?" If you don't know your destination, that can change today. Have a change of mind & action (repentance) and put your trust in Jesus Christ for salvation today.
