Authors: Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein and Tremper Longman III

Title: Holy Land Moments

Type of book: Daily devotional

Summary: Holy Land Moments is a 365 day devotional which reflects on the Old and New Testaments.

My opinion:

This devotional is not like other devotionals. It is not dated so one can start reading anywhere in the book. I thoroughly enjoyed it. There is an Old Testament portion which was written by Rabbi Eckstein, the founder and president of the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews. These devotional segments were enlightening to me because I am interested in the Judaic background of the Christian faith. Rabbi Eckstein covers portions of the Old Testament and the major holy days of the Jewish calendar.

The New Testament portion was written by Dr. Tremper Langman III, a professor of Biblical Studies as Westmont College. Dr. Langman expounds on Rabbi Eckstein's portion and shows how these same thoughts are reflected in the New Testament.  His perspective shows how seamless these two portions of the Bible really are. The old and the new together, telling one complete story.

The end of the week portion gives an opportunity to reflect on the week's readings. They are entitled Sabbath Reflections but they can be done any day of the week. There are questions which ask what was learned over the course of the week's reading, how it impacted your faith and how can it be applied to daily life.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to dig deeper into the Jewish roots of our faith and learn more about its connections to the New Testament.
